Gmail was designed to be used as a tool for increasing productivity and inter-communication. Well, it did enhance the overall level of personal communication, but there might be a possibility that you aren’t using it like a power user.
Being a power user means that you will be able to cut down unnecessary time, and you will be able to work in a more productive and efficient manner. Let’s take a look at some of the best tips to use gmail as it was intended to be used.
Multitask and Use Preview Mode:
Every time you have to read and reply to an email, you have to open it. It takes you to a new window, and hides the rest of your emails and inbox. With the help of preview mode, you will be able to use Gmail in a tablet mode, and you will be able to reply to emails without having to open them. Head over to Settings -> Advanced -> Preview Mode and enable it.
Once you have enabled the preview mode, your Gmail will be refreshed, and the new look will look just like this. You will be able to easily read and reply to emails without having to open them separately.
Let Gmail Remind You of Tasks:
Gmail is so much more than just an emailing service. If someone sends you an invite, you can schedule Gmail to remind you prior to that date and time. It can also set up a to-do list for you, and help you easily maintain a schedule for day-to-day tasks and activities.
This feature only works with the desktop client version, but it is still handy when you rely on Gmail for everything. Let Google Calendar and Google Maps make your life easier by integrating themselves into your Gmail. These applications work together in a harmonious way.
Unsubscribe from Unwanted Promotional Ads:
If you have recently purchased something from an online store or given out your email address to a retailer, the chances are that you will be bombarded with unwanted promotional content on a daily basis.
While most of these ads offer an option to unsubscribe somewhere near the bottom of the email, no one has time to scroll down and click on the button. Gmail gives you an easy way out. As soon as you open the email, you should see an option to unsubscribe on the top, right next to the sender’s email address. Click on it once and never receive the promotional email again. Let Gmail handle it all.
Enjoying running your own business, but tired of writing or copy-pasting the same response over and over again to your eager customers. Be tired no more, for Gmail is now offering canned responses. Go to Settings -> Advanced -> Canned Responses and turn on the canned responses feature.
Now, you will be able to see the option in drop down for every email. Next time you are writing a generic response, go to the drop down and click on canned response. Write your email and send it on its way. Next time you have to reply someone with the same message, just hit canned responses from the drop down, and it will automatically write the response. Let your wrists rest.
Use Keyboard Shortcuts in Gmail:
It is not recommended to use shortcuts in real life, but it is highly recommended to use Keyboard shortcuts in Gmail. Let single clicks do the heavy lifting for you. Just head down to Settings -> keyboard Shortcuts and turn them on. You can now use arrow keys to open and preview emails, and other one keys to write replies and use other features as well.
