Google has launched a new viewing method for contacts. The new design was created using Google’s material design language, and it is sleek, comfortable and modish. The new preview categorizes the contacts into three predefined categories; Starred, frequently contacted and All contacts.
Why Should You Use the New UI for Google Contacts?
Well, Google has already announced that the traditional contacts preview method will be shut down in the beginning of 2019, so you really have no choice. However, you can switch to the updated preview method today, and enjoy a clean and a comfortable UI for contacts. Let’s take a look at the old method first.
The old preview method has had its fun. It was clustered, and there was no visible logic for categories or differentiation among different types of contacts. They were all displayed in one list. There were options to categorize these contacts, but the method was sloppy and clustered at best.
The new preview method is smart, intuitive, modern and practical when it comes to easy and quick contact management. Let’s take a look at the new UI for Google Contacts.
As you can see, the new UI is sleek, and is easily manageable. On the left-hand side bar, you can see a lot of filters and option to categorize the visible contacts according to frequency, and other filters. You can easily create labels for all of your contacts and manage them with one-click.
If you want to see detailed information about any contact, just click on the contact, and it will show you the relevant information about that contact.
Every contact card will not only show the relevant data, but it will also display any exchange of conversations you have had with them. Click on the desired conversation, and Google will display the entire link of emails.
Google has already launched this feature for Gsuite administrators as well. As of this month, they can use the new feature and make their online life much easier than before.
What Are Some Other Bells and Whistles for the NEW UI?
You can now search for duplicates and merge different contacts into one. This will cut down on the cluster, and will keep the contacts list fresh and updated.
Google is also offering quick links to email, message or start a hangout session with the contacts. If a phone number is available for the contact, you will also see “place a call” in your options.
What Does the Future Look Like for Google Users?
Google has officially released a timeline for the future. January 15, 2019 marks the day when the new contacts preview UI will be officially implemented for all users. However, the users will have the option to opt out and switch back to the classic mode any time.
February 12, 2019 marks the date when Google will finally shut down the old contacts preview UI, and the users will no longer be given the option to switch back. If you want to use the new preview, you will have to enable it from the settings.
